The Hawaii Republican Assembly continues to stand strong against the redefinition of marriage in our state. Some argue that many of the ill effects we mentioned in our last Red Alert are easily argued against.
Well, it is difficult to argue against empirical evidence.
From the Heritage Foundation, we know well that:
- Redefining marriage would hurt children. Decades of social science—including very recent and robust studies—show that children do better when raised by a married mom and dad.
- Redefining marriage would further separate marriage from the needs of children. It would deny as a matter of policy the ideal that a child needs a mom and a dad. Government would be forced to intervene more often and welfare programs would grow even larger.
- Redefining marriage would put a new principle into the law—that marriage is whatever emotional bond the government says it is.
- Redefining marriage would push out traditional views on the family, leading to the erosion of religious liberty. Citizens in Canada and right here in places like Massachusetts and Washington, D.C., are already seeing this happen.

We urge you to send your senator and representative a letter right away telling them you do not want the redefinition of marriage in HawaiI. HERE is a sample letter which you are free to copy and paste into your e-mail message to legislators.
You can find your senator/representative HERE. Just enter your street name in the upper right corner of the Legislature's official website to confirm who your state senator and state representatives are. Then copy his/her e-mail address(es) into your urgent new e-mail.
