Aloha Fellow Republicans and Conservatives:
Today we mark the 12th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center and the 1st anniversary of the attack on U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Let us remember . . .
World Trade Center Attack
On September 11, 2001 nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger airliners so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. Two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. Within two hours, both towers collapsed with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the WTC complex, as well as major damage to ten other large surrounding structures. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon (the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense), leading to a partial collapse in its western side. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was targeted at Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers. In total, almost 3,000 people died in the attacks, including the 227 civilians and 19 hijackers aboard the four planes. It also was the deadliest incident for firefighters in the history of the United States.
As we remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice on that day. Let's also remember the families and loved ones they left behind, and the pain this day brings. Please pray that God comforts them in their time of sorrow.
Please take time to thank the brave 1st Responders who protect and serve our communities.
Attack on U.S. Consulate at Benghazi
On September 11, 2012 a heavily armed group of militant Islamists attacked the American diplomatic mission at Benghazi, in Libya. The attack began at night in a compound meant to protect the main diplomatic building. A second assault in the early morning the next day targeted a nearby CIA annex in a different compound. Four Americans were killed, U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. Ten others were injured.
Immediately after the attack, the Administration insisted the tragedy was sparked by a video, clinging to that story until forced to drop it. It was not, they suggested, an act of terror. It could not possibly have been committed by a terrorist organization that they claimed to have nearly defeated.
Although this attack took place in Libya, it happened on American soil. Our embassies and consulates are U.S. soil, and the attack in Libya violated U.S. territory. These terrorist attacks are as heinous as if they happened in Boston or New York or Little Rock.
One year has now passed since militant Islamists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya and murdered the U.S. ambassador, another diplomat, and two Navy Seals. The Obama Administration has yet to tell the truth to the families of the four murdered Americans and the Nation. They continue to lie about the facts of the terrorist attack and, to date, investigators have not identified, captured or killed the person or persons responsible for masterminding the attack; nor have they interviewed the only person identified as a "person of interest".
The families of these slain Americans and the rest of the country need to hear the truth, and the Obama Administration must be held accountable.
We shall not forget!!
